Meet the Artist
BEHIND THE BRUSH

HELLO, I'M ALEXANDRA
And I paint light.

Artist's Statement

The female figures in my work act as archetypes, each embodying specific emotions or memories. Many of my pieces have been inspired by my own personal travels around the world, discovering places in nature that seem too magical to be real.

Light has been the primary narrative tool in my imaginative realism work. By exploring the nuances of light and shadow, I seek to recapture ephemeral moments and the catharsis that can be found in nature; the childlike wonder of catching fireflies in a jar, gazing at the brilliance of a thousand stars, the warmth of summer sun, gardens of endless wonder, or the serenity of floating on water.
The viewer is encouraged to delve into the ethereal environments inhabited by these feminine archetypes who invite us to fully immerse ourselves in the experiences that connect us all.

-Alexandra
Alexandra graduated college in 2016 with a B.A. in Arts Management. She currently lives in New Jersey with her supportive husband and even more supportive two studio cats.

From the sanctuary of my studio, I create oil paintings and mixed media drawings to illuminate the female presence and give form to intangible feelings.

My Mediums

OIL PAINT
Each of my oil paintings begin with a tonal underpainting in raw umber, on which I build thin layers of color to achieve the luminous quality that defines my work.

PASTEL
I use a combination of soft pastels, hard pastels and pastel pencils. I layer on toned pastel paper to create luminous effects.

MIXED MEDIA
I approach my mixed media pieces experimentally depending on the needs of the piece, often utilizing graphite, charcoal, inks, pastels and gold leaf.
